Good to know
- It's a preorder. Amazon lists a January 1, 2027 release, so nobody has tested it in the field yet.
- The 7,000 ft figure needs a clear line of sight and an outdoor-mounted Sync Module XR+. Woods cut that to about 800 ft.
- The outdoor mount kit for the Sync Module, the weatherproof power adapter, and a tree strap are all sold separately.
- Long-range XR+ mode drops video to 1080p and turns off two-way audio.
- Sold in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand only. No UK or EU version yet.

Why it's worth it
Most trail cams make you pick between hiking out to swap SD cards and paying for a cellular data plan. The Frontier XR+ skips both. It talks to a Blink hub over Blink's long-range radio, up to 7,000 ft in the open, so live view and motion alerts reach your phone on home Wi-Fi. It runs on AA batteries and handles cold and rain. Just know it ships in January and hasn't been tested yet, so treat this as a promising preorder, not a proven pick.
The review
The Frontier XR+ is Blink's new trail and large-property camera. It's a small weatherproof camera with a tall antenna that links back to a Sync Module XR+ hub at your house. Blink says it reaches up to 7,000 ft with a clear line of sight.
What it promises
The big idea is range without a cell plan. Regular trail cams either store clips on a card you have to go fetch, or need their own data plan. This one sends everything back through your home Wi-Fi via the hub, so you get live view, motion alerts, and clips in the Blink app.
It runs on four AA lithium batteries (included) or USB-C power, is rated IP65, and works from -5°F to 113°F. Video goes up to 2K when the camera is near the hub. You also get color night vision, infrared out to 33 ft, a temperature sensor, and scheduled still photos.
The fine print
- 7,000 ft is a best case. Through heavy woods, Blink quotes about 800 ft.
- Max range needs the Sync Module XR+ mounted outdoors, and that mount kit and its weatherproof power adapter cost extra.
- In long-range XR+ mode, video tops out at 1080p and two-way audio is off.
- Person, vehicle, and animal alerts, cloud clips, and AI video descriptions need a Blink subscription. Local backup works with a microSD card in the hub.
Should you get it?
If you have acres to watch and hate the idea of a monthly cellular bill, this is the most interesting trail cam on paper right now. At $199.99 with the hub, or $179.99 to add a camera to an existing XR+ hub, it's priced like a regular Blink camera. It doesn't ship until January 1, 2027, though, and there are no field reviews yet. We'd preorder only if you're comfortable being an early adopter, and we'll update our scores once real-world range tests come in.
